I hope everyone has completed their 2010 Census form, because if you haven't, you may have to deal with me.
About 3 weeks ago I had applied for a job as a Census Taker, also known as an Enumerator. I went to Deer Park's community center to apply for the job, and had to take a short 28 question test. The test was simple enough and I aced it. The application itself that I filled out did not ask for any previous employment information or references. It was just the basic address, phone number, SSN, are you a citizen of the U.S. set of questions.
So today I get a call from someone at the Census to conduct a "phone interview." I was expecting a legitimate job interview over the phone. Instead it was simple yes and no questions, like "As a Census Crew Leader you have the following responsibilities... ...are you willing to do that?" That was it. I was hired. So now I report to Bayshore Baptist Church in La Porte on March 12 to start training to be a Census Crew Leader. Should be interesting. At least the pay will be good while it lasts for around 8 weeks, and it will look good on a resume, since I don't currently have any official "supervisory" experience.
In other news, I have applied to three different police departments in the area, including HPD. While I haven't really considered the possibility of being a police officer before, the more I look into it, the more interested I become. Plus it will allow me to put my fancy psychology/criminal justice degree and soon to be Master of Public Administration degree to work. We'll see how that goes.
